Calling all young Fremantle artists! We want your sticker design to help us promote slower speeds in our neighbourhoods.

Announcing the Go Slow in Freo campaign and bin sticker design competition!

The City has received $13,000 in grant funding from the WA Road Safety Commission to support innovative community projects aimed at promoting road safety in WA. Go Slow in Freo is a rubbish bin sticker awareness campaign backed by residents across Fremantle who want drivers to slow down when travelling through our neighbourhoods.

What are we looking for?

We’re seeking young artists between the ages of 4-18 to create a visually engaging and creative bin sticker design to promote slower speeds for safer streets in Freo!

The sticker design should be full of imagination, attractive and also aim to educate drivers about safe neighbourhood speeds in a respectful and constructive way.

What do I win?

In addition to winning a $500 voucher to spend at a local Fremantle bicycle business of their choosing, the successful entrant's design will also be printed on thousands of stickers to decorate Fremantle's neighbourhood wheely bins.

How do I apply?

To apply, all entrants must submit:

  • A hard copy or digital version of their Go Slow in Freo bin sticker design, using the template provided (no more than 1 A4 page)
  • A completed copy of the entry form (see below)
  • Please note, only applicants aged between 4-18 years can apply*

You can download a copy of the design template and entry form here.

Over the past 12 months, City officers conducted an extensive engagement program called Safe and Functional Streets. The program collaborated directly with residents across Fremantle to better understand the types of road safety and traffic calming solutions the community preferred, as well as updating our council policies to meet the community’s needs. The popular engagement program highlighted the need for a city-wide education program to encourage slower driving alongside physical local road interventions, as well as informing the adopted Council Policies below:

The City's 2024-2034 Strategic Community Plan (SCP) is the City’s most significant guiding document and establishes the community’s long-term aspirations and vision for Fremantle’s future. The Plan drives the City’s planning, budgeting, resource allocation and service delivery over the next decade, and was developed in direct collaboration with people who live, work, and play in Fremantle.

The Go Slow in Freo campaign aligns with the key SCP focus area of Fremantle as an Inclusive City that provides a "safe and accessible community for all abilities " and supports "liveable and socially connected neighbourhoods."
