Consultation has concluded
As part of Greening Fremantle: Strategy 2020, the City is working to provide usable open space within walking distance for every resident and worker in the City of Fremantle.
The eastern area of White Gum Valley (north of South St / west of Carrington St) does not currently meet this target. A detailed investigation has identified an opportunity to improve the corner of Biddles Lane and Minilya Av (drainage sump and the adjoining verge) for local residents.

Based on the positive response from surrounding residents the White Gum Valley pocket park on the corner of Minilya Av and Biddles Lane will proceed.
A key theme from responses was that the pocket park would provide a great opportunity to support community culture and be a meeting point, particularly as it is near other services. Responses indicate it would be used most by children under 5 (and their families) and older adults without children. Some alterations are being made based on resident feedback and site constraints and once the detailed design is ready an update will be given to respondents.
Due to the site constraints a draft concept has been developed to determine what could be included in the space.

The final design is new ready and can be viewed or downloaded. Read on to find out more about the minor alterations and when you can expect work to commence.
Minor alterations were made while keeping to the requested functions of the site, which
were:

Landscaping
/ general beautification.

place for children to play.

A great location being close to a café.
The pocket park is designed for a small catchment area
and due to the constraints on this site the drain area could not be used on
this project. The deck was designed as an affordable way to extend the area
without changing the drainage function.
There will be a new fence on the northern boundary. Elements on the northern section of the verge had to be scaled down from the draft, so
the layout of the play equipment is slightly altered. The final costings
limited play equipment to just the two most popular options - a birds nest
swing and recycled/ upcycled boat.
There are two bench seats provided which have been
positioned to use existing shade. The chainlink fencing in Biddles Lane will be
replaced as part of this project. Construction is expected to commence early June and will
take around 4 weeks.

Local residents are invited to a drop-in session to discuss the opportunity, learn more about the site and let us know what you think of the idea.
If you can't make the session, you can still let us know what you think of the idea until 4pm 13 March 2018.
