We’re reviewing how we cater for community leisure, sport and recreation needs across the City of Fremantle.
Community and recreational facilities play an important role to help foster community connection, health and wellbeing. Whether you use our community buildings and open spaces (parks, reserves) frequently or not at all, your input is important to inform our approach. Our new Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Plan will outline how we develop, upgrade and manage these places now and into the future.
Previous engagement
We've already undertaken targeted consultation with sports clubs and community groups to underpin this plan. It also builds on facilities planning undertaken in 2017, randomised perception surveys and the COVID-19 community recovery planning engagement in 2020. In addition to this, there are relevant standards, trends and other data providing a basis for the plan.
Current engagement (this stage)
We’re currently seeking broad input from households across the City to understand how you spend your leisure time, if your needs are being met and how we could improve our spaces and facilities.
Open space refers to parks, reserves and green space. Community facilities includes neighbourhood buildings such as North Fremantle Community Centre, Sullivan Hall, The Meeting Place and Samson Recreation Centre.
Please share your input below (in our survey or via a quick ‘park story’) by Thursday 25 March 2021. We’re also hosting four ‘open house’ sessions, find one near you in the list on this page.

Community members who participated in stage one and two engagement activities during 2020 and 2021 to support the development of the City’s Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Plan (CSRFP) 2021-2031 may be wondering where the project currently sits within the City’s priorities and planning for 2022-23 financial year. In late 2021 it was recommended that the CSRFP be deferred to allow for the development of an internal strategic framework for public reserves. .internally on green spaces, in particular active reserves and the provisions we agree to as an organisation. The CSRP will now sit within the City’s Community Development team, if you have any questions, please contact Erinn Litchfield on erinnl@fremantle.wa.gov.au . The City appreciates the time and effort the community has already given to the development of this plan and we thank you for your patience as we prepare to recommence work on this project in early 2023.
