We’re checking in on how the North Freo Community Centre play area is used so we can plan improvements that are fit for purpose.

Tucked behind the North Freo Bowlo and North Fremantle Social Farm, the North Fremantle Community Centre is a vibrant community hub catering for families, groups and event bookings for up to 200 people. The City's Place and Projects Team have received capital works budget funding to replace play equipment within the complex, which are nearing end of useful life. The existing playground includes a traditional combination unit and a set of swings, which are available for use during centre bookings.

We're asking for community feedback to help ensure the refreshed playground at the meet the needs of all those who utilise the North Fremantle Community Centre. Following community engagement, insights from the public will be collated to help refine the new play concept. Once the play design is finalised, delivery of the new playground is scheduled for mid 2027. Exact timing will be subject to contractor availability and fabrication lead times.

Please note, this playground renewal engagement is being conducted in tandem with the play renewal of two adjacent parks in North Fremantle: Gordon Dedman Park and McCabe Memorial Park. For more information on these projects, please consult the MySay landing page.

The scope of this play renewal project includes:

  • Replacement of the existing play elements (swing set, combination unit) which are nearing end of useful life.
  • Opportunity to include new types of play elements, fitting within the footprint of the existing sandpit.

How can the community influence the project?

We are asking the public to:

  • Learn more about what is planned by exploring the Frequently Asked Questions and explainer document listed below.
