Consultation has concluded

The City of Fremantle is preparing to renew the bowling and tennis club facilities at Fremantle Park.

What's proposed?

Fremantle Park Sport and Community Centre will see the Fremantle Workers and Social Club, Fremantle Lawn Tennis Club and Fremantle Bowling Club housed in a purpose-built space at Fremantle Park.

The City and the three clubs have worked closely with Site Architecture to design a shared facility that will help meet a broader range of community needs. The plans for the new building include:

  • Three indoor function rooms, including a cafe, bar and commercial kitchen.
  • Alfresco and balcony area overlooking the sporting areas.
  • Improved accessibility.
  • Improved sporting facilities.
  • New car park along Parry Street.

What are the next steps?

Once the consultation period is completed, all comments will be considered by the project team.

The Department of Planning has reviewed the City’s proposal and agreed that it meets the definition of public work under the Public Works Act 1902, so development approval is not required.

The feedback we receive during the consultation stage will help to further refine the plans for the new sport and community centre, before progressing the detailed design and applying for a building permit.

Thanks to everyone who has provided their feedback during the Fremantle Park Sport and Community Centre consultation.

Your feedback on the plans will help inform the design of this new club house for the Fremantle Bowling Club, Fremantle Workers Club and Fremantle Tennis Club and community facility.

Over the next few weeks, we'll review and collate all the feedback and use it to refine the plans. An overview of the feedback we received, including what has changed in the plans as result of the feedback will be provided on My Say Freo.

We hope to share the final plans in June 2018.

We appreciate your ongoing interest the Fremantle Park and Community Centre project. If you would like further information, please feel free to contact Mark Johnston at markj@fremantle.wa.gov.au.
