Image: Queen Street potential streetscape transformation
Source: Freo 2029 Transformational Moves
Project Status:
With the announcement by the City of Fremantle in November 2016 to commence the Kings Square cultural precinct redevelopment, a decision has been made to integrate the enhancements of Queen, Point and Adelaide Streets and a new public space near the Fremantle Train Station over time with the redevelopment of Kings Square.
The City of Fremantle is preparing to develop a draft concept plan to upgrade the streetscape of Queen Street, Adelaide Street and Point Street, which are in need of significant improvement. This project is a key action from Freo 2029 Transformational Moves and responds to the changing role of these streets as plans to revitalise Fremantle progress.
With redevelopment planned for Kings Square, the Fremantle rail station forecourt and major sites along Queen Street and Adelaide Street, these key inner east end streets are in need of an upgrade to support revitalisation of the city centre. We want to make sure the public domain of Queen, Adelaide and Point streets is attractive and safe with good pedestrian connections, public transport links and public amenity.
