New Bike Racks for the City Centre
Help us decide where to install them.
In celebration and recognition of WA Bike Month, City officers are asking the public to identify key areas where new bike racks could be installed within the city centre, as well as encouraging more cycling in Fremantle by increasing safe areas to park bicycles.
Improved access to safe bike racks in Fremantle not only benefits cyclists but also has the potential to:
- Reduce informal bike locking and declutter city streets.
- Avoid an ad-hoc approach to where future bikes are installed.
- Increase security, safety, and convenience for bike users.
- Reduce bicycle vandalism.
- Improve footfall and movement within the centre of Fremantle.
- Encourage cycling use, support inner-city businesses, and facilitate community bonding.
Alongside community feedback gathered during this engagement process, the planning and implementation of new bike racks in the city centre will also be guided by the City's Integrated Transport Strategy (2015) and the 2019-2024 Bike Plan.
It is important to note that this City Centre Bike Rack project does not include the scope to include changes to other types of cycling infrastructure or policy in Fremantle. City Officers will soon be conducting an internal review into the current Bike Plan, due to expire at the end of 2024, and will conduct extensive engagement with the community on any next steps. You can read the current Bike Plan here.
