We're reviewing our local laws to ensure they remain current.

Section 3.16 of the Local Government Act requires a periodic review of local laws to determine whether or not they should be repealed or amended. We recently sought feedback on two City of Fremantle local laws:

City of Fremantle Parking Local Law 2006 (now closed)

Before providing feedback, please click here to view the Parking Local Law 2006.

Prevention and Abatement of Sand Drift Local Law 2002 (now closed)

Before providing feedback, please click here to view the Prevention and Abatement of Sand Drift Local Law 2002.

Copies of these local laws are also available from the City of Fremantle offices at 70 Parry Street, Fremantle (Fremantle Oval) between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm Monday to Friday and at the City Library during library open hours.

Your feedback will be reviewed and presented to Council, who will decide whether to retain, repeal or amend each local law. If amendments are recommended, a draft will be advertised for public comment.

Submissions can be made below by 5.00pm Monday 11 November 2019.

Thank you to those who have previously provided feedback on the Parking Local Law.

Since 2019, officers have completed a comprehensive review of the local law and have recommended adopting a new law in its place, which is now advertised for public comment. Proposed changes include:

    • The City has not changed it's infringement amounts in eight years and the new law recommends increases to some penalties. To view a full list of the proposed changes to penalties, click here.
    • Provisions to allow the adoption of electronic parking technology, including provisions which will allow the City to set 'Pay by Phone only' zones.
    • Provisions to allow for electronic parking permits.
    • New provisions for parking at construction sites.
    • An amendment to help prevent free parking from being exploited.
    • An amendment regarding verge parking including for trailers, caravans or boats.
    • An amendment to allow motorcycles to be parked in any bay, given the fee is paid.
    • Other amendments to remove repetition and streamline requirements of current legislation.
