Consultation has concluded and a final design can be found in the news feed (near bottom of the project page).

We’re planning changes to the turfed areas at Coral Park to align with current water wise irrigation practices.

In order to improve the condition of the turfed areas at Coral Park, we will be replacing the irrigation system. At the same time we are proposing to hydrozone areas where turf is difficult to maintain or no longer required.

Hydrozoning includes the removal of non-water wise turf areas and turning them into mulched areas, some of which can be planted with water wise native plants and trees.

The concept plan below shows proposed changes including new mulched areas, new trees and concrete pads underneath the existing seating. There is also a mock up of the proposed planting along Wyola Lane to give an idea of what the new treatment could look like.

The City is very keen to ensure the changes meet the needs of all users, if you or your family use this park we’d like your input.

Planned upgrades are about to begin at Coral Park. Starting this week we will:

    • Remove and replace sections of concrete path that have been damaged by tree roots.
    • Remove the two old seats in the park and install new concrete pads ready for new seating.

In the coming months, you can also expect to see:

    • Two new seats installed.
    • Improvements to the turf, including top dressing and covering tree roots.

There was also a successful planting day held on Sunday 25 October, with a small group of local residents planting 52 native plant tubes. The new additions are looking great and a big thank you to those who were involved.

Thank you to locals who provided feedback on the Coral Park hydrozoning and irrigation renewal.

The mulch and softening of edges was generally well received but an updated design has been developed (click here or see document library) which adds some additional access via pavers and moves the trees slightly to accommodate this and introduce smaller flowering native trees to attract birds.

The main objective is irrigation changes and hydro zoning to reduce water use in Coral Park, however some other issues were raised and are summarised in more detail in the survey report on My Say Freo.

You can access this directly by clicking here or visiting the document library on this page.

Construction is anticipated for April/ May 2020 and previous participants will be notified when a more accurate date is available. If you would like to be added to the notification list please email us at communityengagement@fremantle.wa.gov.au
