Proposed Bathers Beach Alfresco Extension
The purpose of this proposal is to invite community feedback and guide decision-making regarding the proposed extension of the alfresco dining area for Bathers Beach House, located at 47 Mews Road / Bathers Beach.

In summary
In 2017, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries granted Bather's Beach House an extended trading permit for a portion of Bathers Beach. As part of City’s commitment to fostering vibrant public spaces, supporting local businesses and enhancing the visitor experience, The City of Fremantle granted use of this space under the Alfresco Dining Local Law.
The licenced alfresco dining area at Bathers Beach has become a valued part of the precinct, contributing to the vibrancy of the foreshore and supporting local businesses.
The City has now received an application for the expansion of the existing alfresco area. The proposed addition will increase the current alfresco area by 301.4sqm.
Before progressing to regulatory and operational approvals, the City seeks the feedback of the community including local residents, beach users and surrounding businesses.
Objective of Use:
- To increase capacity for outdoor dining in a high-demand beachfront setting.
- To improve the user experience for patrons of Bathers Beach House by offering a more comfortable, accessible and visually appealing alfresco space.
- To reinforce Fremantle’s reputation as a premier coastal dining destination, supporting local employment and tourism.
- To ensure that the extended area complements the public realm and retains amenity for all beach users and passers-by.
Conditions of Proposed Use:
- The use shall not be exclusive
- Use must be in line or ancillary to the reserve purpose
- Public access will not be restricted
- Structures shall not be fully permanent and can be removed
- Should there be a requirement for any service agencies to access the area the structures can be easily removed at the cost of the proponent
