Speed Radars - Have your say on the next location!
The first Speed Radars were installed in February 2022 at Marine Terrace and Chester Street. These locations were chosen because they have a history of drivers over the speed limit. The Chester Street location is near Parmelia Park and targeted at drivers using Chester Street south bound towards Douro Road. The Marine Terrace location is a high volume road where the speed reminder should have maximum impact on the thousands of drivers passing it every day on their way into Fremantle. Feedback from local residents has been positive with requests already filtering through for the devices to be on more streets.
Maintaining the impact the speed display signs have on driver behaviour is supported by ensuring they are regularly rotated to different locations. Therefore, we are now asking the community to have your say by nominating the next preferred locations. The aim of engaging with local residents is to ensure the devices build awareness and help identify viable locations where speeding is perceived as an issue.
Nominate your top two preferred locations by completing our short survey and provide a reason for your selection if you have one. The location must be within the City of Fremantle, here’s a handy link to show the City's boundaries.
Before making your selections, please be aware that there will be some locations that are not viable due to jurisdiction issues, these include:
- Major roads such as South St, Stock Rd, Stirling Hwy
- Cul-de-sacs
- Multi-lane roads
- Roads within the Port area or Harbours – out of our jurisdiction.
Please make your selections by 20 June 2022.
