Horrie Long Reserve Play Upgrade
It’s time for a new playground at Horrie Long Reserve – tell us what you’d like to see.
Horrie Long is a beloved community space that combines natural beauty with recreational facilities. Surrounded by a canopy of Tuart trees, it offers a peaceful environment for relaxation and play. The park features a play area, basketball hoop, nature play, seating, public toilets, and a picnic area with a BBQ, making it perfect for families, locals, and visitors to enjoy both active and leisurely activities.
We’re planning a playground renewal for equipment which is over 20 years old and would love to hear your ideas. Community feedback will guide the new design and style of the new playground. This project will promote physical and cognitive development, creativity, and a connection to the environment.
The scope of work for this park project includes:
- Refreshing the old playground in the south-east corner of the reserve to include nature-based and sensory play elements.
- Adding winter native plantings around habitat logs and play areas to help define pathways and play zones, support local wildlife, and complement existing green space.
The City is committed to engaging with the community and stakeholders to ensure the new playground at Horrie Long Reserve reflects local needs and priorities. A design will be developed based on community feedback, practical considerations, and available budget, with installation planned for completion in the 2025/26 financial year.
How can the community influence the project?
We are asking the public to:
- Learn more about the scope of the Horrie Long play renewal project by exploring the Frequently Asked Questions and explainer documents listed below.
- Share what you currently love about the park and what replacement play designs are most suitable by completing the Horrie Long Play Renewal Survey.
- View the associated materials, talk to City officers and provide feedback in person at the Horrie Long Drop-In-Session (details below)
How can you meet with City Officers to discuss the park upgrade and your feedback?
- Attend the drop-in session: Drop-in sessions allow the public to meet with City staff to ask questions about the project, seek clarification and guidance on how to best submit feedback. These are informal sessions that allow the public to come and go during the time period provided. To learn more, visit our How We Engage page here.
- Request a 1:1 or group meeting with city staff to discuss your thoughts.

City Officers aim to:
- Work with the community on the design of replacement play equipment for Horrie Long that best suits their needs.
