Recommendation on Kings Square fig trees to be presented to council

A recommendation to remove the two Moreton Bay Fig trees in Kings Square will be considered by council on 25 July 2018, subject to support being obtained from the State Heritage Office and the Anglican Church before either tree is removed .

The report recommends tree No. 5 be replaced with a mature London Plane tree as a priority, to reinforce the proposed civic area in Kings Square.

A suitably advanced Moreton Bay Fig tree is recommended to replace tree No. 4 (‘Christmas Tree’). The availability, preparation and timing for transplant will determine when the replacement process can be completed.
