Beach Street Public Toilet Facility & Public Art Project
The Beach Street Public Toilet Facility project will bring a new, universally accessible 24-hour public toilet facility to Fremantle, ensuring continuous support for all members of the community. Share your thoughts on the proposed plans.
At the 27 November 2024 Ordinary Council Meeting, council approved $380,000 to be allocated to the Beach Street Public Toilet Facility project.
Public toilets are an essential part of the city’s infrastructure, supporting public health, accessibility and quality of life for everyone. The Beach Street Public Toilet Facility will introduce a new, universally accessible public toilet facility in Fremantle, strategically located to serve all members of the community, including city commuters, skate park users, and those utilising essential services operating out of the Beach Street location.
The Beach Street Public Toilet Facility project aims to:
- Reinforce the City of Fremantle's commitment to inclusivity, public health, and the well-being of all its residents.
- Provide 24-hour essential amenities in a safe, inclusive and dignified environment to support public health for all users in the City.
- Ensure clear communication to keep local residents, stakeholders and the broader community aware and informed throughout the project's progress.
Call for Artists - Beach Street Public Art EOI:
City officers are also collecting Expressions of Interest from local artists to design a public artwork for the exterior of the facility. Once the design is selected and finalised, the City will coordinate the printing and installation of the vinyl wrap on the toilet unit. The successful public artwork will:
- Create a welcoming, respectful environment that discourages vandalism of the amenity and promotes positive community interaction.
- Highlight Fremantle's distinct character, transforming a utilitarian space into an engaging, memorable part of the public realm.
- Promote inclusivity and foster community pride and engagement with Fremantle’s creative scene.
