Consultation has concluded

We're seeking submissions on a proposal which aims to reduce balloon litter and prevent injuries to wildlife.

As a One Planet certified Council the City of Fremantle is committed to help create a future where it is easy, attractive and affordable for people to lead happy and healthy lives within a fair share of earth's resources. The impact of balloon litter is an environmental concern, with the CSIRO predicting that plastics ingestion in seabirds may reach 95 per cent of all species by 2050.

At its Ordinary Meeting held on 17 April 2019, the City of Fremantle Council resolved to make a determination under its Local Government Property Local Law. The purpose of the determination is to prohibit the release of gas filled balloons from local government property within the City of Fremantle. The effect of the determination is the provision of authority to enforce and administer fines relating to the release of gas filled balloons, reducing balloon litter (accidental or intentional) and helping prevent injury to wildlife.

Submissions can be made below by Monday 27 May 2019.
