Please review the current context of the William St. Reimagined project area above.

  1. Fremantle Mall Connection: The Fremantle Mall connects to the Cappuccino Strip, creating a high pedestrian flow corridor.
  2. Federal Hotel: A historic Federation-style hotel fronts a busy street with perpendicular parking and frequent delivery truck activity.
  3. Narrow Footpaths: There are footpaths on both sides of the road. The endorsed masterplan aims for a pedestrian-first experience.
  4. Street Furniture and Utilities: bike racks and street lighting contribute to the  amenity and safety of the shared space.
  5. Heritage Veranda and Asphalt: A heritage veranda fronts the site, with newly installed asphalt that doesn't enhance the immediate public realm.
  6. Vibrant Food Precinct: A variety of popular eateries draw people into the area.
  7. Barber and Motorbikes: A barber shop is frequented by customers arriving on motorbikes.
  8. The One-Way Street: The one-way street already functions informally as a shared space. The speed limit will be reduced to 20km/h from October 2025.
  9. Jacaranda Trees and Street Parking: Existing jacaranda trees visually enhance the area, especially when in bloom. Street parking is located on the opposite side of the road, with the Town Hall visible in the background.
  10. Signage: Multiple cafe signs sit within the project area during trading hours.
  11. Popular Lunchtime Destination: The area is well-used during lunch hours, especially for alfresco dining.
  12. High Street Mall Connection: High Street Mall provides a link to Market Street with visual corridors extending toward the Round House and Bather’s Beach precinct beyond.
