Q & A
Is the mulch that is offered free to residents at the Recycling Yard weed free?
The mulch is 100% recycled tree pruning’s, so should be weed free. However, we cannot guarantee that a weed in the surrounding area hasn’t blown
it’s seeds into the area where the mulch is stored, which would be the same for any mulch you could purchase from a small garden supply yard.
There are blank spaces, some of which are verges, around Fremantle that have no built form facing them, so they look neglected/overgrown. Can the City plant these and maintain them?
With the exception of a few, selected areas in the CBD the City does not have the manpower or budget’s to maintain all the verges within it’s boundaries.
Some Council’s charge people when they submit an application to modify their verge, as part of these changes you are asking for, will the City begin charging people now?
Not at this stage. However, depending on uptake of verge gardens and the capacity of the current staff to monitor the requests then this might change in the future. If this was the case, can you indicate how much you think would be a reasonable amount to pay?
A verge near me is built up with planting/rubbish piles/soil and it is difficult to exit my driveway safely, how do I go about reporting this?
Verge heights must remain under 750mm to ensure safe site line’s for pedestrians and cars exiting their driveways. If you are experiencing issues with the height of a particular verge, please report it to the City by lodging a Service Request
