Consultation has concluded

The City of Fremantle is excited to collaborate with the community, and we understand how Nannine Common needs to balance different needs and aspirations while remaining 'local'. Importantly, our collective role is to consider what is unique and essential regarding Nannine Common while also holistically considering the broader White Gum Valley community.

Community Engagement Follow Up Survey - In progress

The City of Fremantle thanks all those who attended the Nannine Common Community Engagement where the draft concept prepared by Josh Byrne & Associates (JBA) was shared for comment on May 10 at Sullivan Hall.

For those unable to join us, we encourage you to participate by completing the follow-up survey on My Say Freo, now closing Monday, May 29, 2023, giving an extra 2-days to comment.

The inputs from the session and survey will play a role in determining a vision and place framework for Nannine Common that aligns with the community's needs and aspirations.

Please share this survey with other community members interested in participating.

Community Engagement Session 02: Completed

We warmly invite the Community to a 1-hour sit-down session to discuss the concept, which will be posted on My Say Freo 1 week prior. There will also be a follow-up survey to capture additional comments and understand priorities.

As outlined in February 2023 Nannine Commons Community Engagement Report, the next step will be for the City of Fremantle (the City) and Josh Byrne & Associates (JBA) to create a concept for community feedback.

Please note the draft concept masterplan will have components needing staging and ongoing engagement.

When: 5:45 for a 6 pm start –7 pm, Wednesday 10 May 2023.

Where: Sullivan Hall (2 Nannine Ave, White Gum Valley)

Previous Community Engagement Session 01: Completed

The City and JBA held a community check-in at Sullivan Hall on 7 December 2023 to help create a concept design brief for the future of Nannine Common in White Gum Valley (former Men's Shed site).

Before COVID-19, the City had previously undertaken community engagement for the site. The community outlined many preferred uses: (1) landscaping and seating, (2) native planting, (3) space for organised outdoor activities and (4) a multi-use, multi-generational outdoor hub. Please refer to the background documents to see the outcomes and assessment in further detail.

The City were keen to see if what we heard back in 2018- 2019 is still relevant to the community. All the work was distilled from the previous community engagement (sketches, designs and ideas) into place themes to test if this is still the community's sentiment today.

This community engagement session aimed to create a concept design brief (Nannine Commons Community Engagement Report ) for Josh Byrne & Associates so they can create a community-aligned concept for project funding and community governance purposes. The focus of the session:

  • The types of activities, like planting or gardening days,
  • Community governance of activities,
  • The amenity, and
  • The look and feel.
