FAQs
Does this change the heritage listing of my property?
No, these policies will not affect current heritage listings. However, there is a concurrent project that proposes to amend the South Fremantle Heritage Area and which will result in changes to listings. Please refer to the relevant MySay page,
What is the purpose of changing the policy?
The policy attempts to capture the heritage advice currently given out by the City's heritage officers in one-on-one conversations in a readable format and provide a one-stop shop for development of heritage properties within the City (except for the West End, which will remain in its own policy for now).
Additionally, only advice for properties in heritage areas is listed in the current policy. The draft policy adds criteria for individually listed properties based on their level of listing. These criteria are based on how officers currently assess heritage development and aim to provide the advice up front rather than requiring people to schedule meetings with a heritage officer.
Why is there less guidance on Level 1 and 2 listed properties?
Level 1 and 2 properties tend to be unique, making general advice difficult. Level 3 properties within the City tend to have been constructed in discreet eras and have easily identifiable styles (ex: Interwar Cottage, Federation Bungalow) that tend to be emblematic of that era. These properties have many similarities that make more general heritage advice relevant throughout a range of properties.
