Gordon Dedman Park Upgrade Survey

North Fremantle's beloved Gordon Dedman Park is set for play equipment renewal in the 2026/7 financial year. We would love to hear your thoughts about what play elements, accessible options and playground look and feel appeals to you, as well as how you currently interact with the park.

Please make sure you have viewed the Frequently Asked Questions and Gordon Dedman Park Upgrade Explainer in the Key Documents section before submitting your comments.

Your ideas, thoughts and comments will inform the replacement play elements, resulting in a refreshed play environment for Gordon Dedman Park. Thank you for taking the time to contribute feedback!

We are asking the public to:

  • Learn more about what is planned by exploring the Frequently Asked Questions and explainer document listed below.
  • Share your experience of the playground, park and what play design elements you would like to see included by completing the Gordon Dedman Park Upgrade Survey.
  • View the associated materials, talk to City officers and provide feedback in person at the North Fremantle Parks Play Upgrade Drop-In-Session (details on the project page).

Submissions close 5pm AWST, 27 March 2026.

Playground Renewal: What makes a playground inclusive?

The layers of truly inclusive playground design centre around three questions:

  • Can users get around?
  • Can they stay? and,
  • Can they play?

Get Around

Provide accessible paths and surfacing so everyone can  reach and use key play areas. Paths should allow space  for mobility aids and support people assisting children.  Not every element needs to be usable by all, but everyone  should have meaningful play options.

Stay

Design for longer visits by offering variety, clear zones,  and nearby break points. Well-placed seating helps users  of all ages - especially those with limited mobility - rest  without ending the play experience.

Play

Include a mix of play types to support all abilities. Offer  genuine thrill where appropriate but balance it with social,  group, and individual play options like panels and single use activities. Variety is key to an inclusive, engaging  playground
