A Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) is a strategic plan that outlines how the City of Fremantle will improve access and inclusion for people with disability when accessing City facilities, services, information, events and employment opportunities.

The plan sets out goals and practical actions to create a more inclusive community for everyone.

People with lived experience have the best understanding of what works well and what barriers still exist.

Your feedback will help the City:

• Understand what is working well
• Identify opportunities for improvement.
• Prioritise future actions and investment.
• Ensure the new plan reflects the needs and experiences of the community.

All Cities have a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, and it is renewed every five years. 

The City of Fremantle is currently developing the new plan to guide access and inclusion improvements over the next five years.

The new plan will build on previous achievements, respond to community voice and identify new priorities for improving access and inclusion across Fremantle.

Everyone is welcome to participate. We particularly encourage feedback from:

• People with disability.
• Carers, families and support networks.
• Seniors.
• Community organisations and advocates.
• Service providers.
• Local businesses.
• Community groups and sporting clubs.
• Anyone who lives, works, studies or visits Fremantle.

The City is committed to making the engagement process as accessible and inclusive as possible. We want everyone to be able to participate. 

Support may include:

• Accessible venues.
• Plain English information.
• Alternative formats on request.
• Accessible online engagement tools.
• Opportunities to provide feedback in different ways.
• Support people welcome at engagement activities.

Under the Disability Services Act 1993 (WA), local governments must:

• Develop and implement a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).
• Consult with people with disability, their families, carers and relevant organisations when preparing, reviewing or amending a DAIP.
• Review their DAIP at least every five years.
• Lodge DAIP review reports with the State Government.
• Report annually on progress in implementing their DAIP.

A DAIP must include strategies and actions that help achieve the following outcomes:

1. People with disability have the same opportunities to access services and events.
2. People with disability have the same opportunities to access buildings and facilities.
3. People with disability receive information in a format that meets their needs.
4. People with disability receive the same level and quality of service from staff.
5. People with disability can make complaints.
6. People with disability can participate in public consultation processes.
7. People with disability have the same opportunities for employment.

The city centre is one of Fremantle's busiest public places and is used by residents, workers and visitors every day. Understanding how people experience these spaces will help the City prioritise accessibility improvements as public infrastructure is renewed and upgraded.
