Implementation Plan

The City has worked closely with community and government stakeholders to refine a program of cycling infrastructure improvements for implementation over the next five years. The key elements of this program include:

  • Coordinating network improvements with vehicle speed reductions in school zones and key precincts (local centres, destinations and Public Open Spaces)
  • Responding to Levels of Stress Assessment (e.g. focusing improvements around Tydeman Rd, South St, Hampton Rd, Lefroy Rd)
  • Identifying key crossing points that are needed to add safety and continuity to our cycling network. The City is responsible for some of these crossings and will undertake advocacy where needed crossings fall under State Government responsibility.
  • Balancing East-West and North-South connectivity improvements
  • Focusing on Bike Activity Zone (BAZ) implementation, integrated with reduced vehicle speeds. BAZ areas provide a pathway to future Shared Active Street
  • Committing every year to implement one of each of the following project types (co-locating implementation where possible):

  1. Linemarking/resurfacing of bike routes
  2. Bike storage provision
  3. Signage and Wayfinding improvement
  4. Bike counter implementation
