The Metropolitan South West Joint Development Assessment Panel approved the development application for the former Myer building and Queensgate sites on 3 February 2017.

Joint Development Assessment Panel meeting to determine development application

The Metropolitan South West Joint Development Assessment Panel will consider the City of Fremantle's report on Friday 3 February 2017.

City of Fremantle's report to the Joint Development Assessment Panel

A report will be presented to council on Wednesday 25 January 2017 seeking endorsement of the City of Fremantle's report to the Metropolitan South West Joint Development Assessment Panel. The report recommends that the development application be approved, subject to certain conditions .

Public comment period has concluded

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback, your comments are being reviewed and will be used to inform our recommendation to council. We expect to present a report to Council in January 2017, after which the application will be considered by the Joint Development Assessment Panel. A date for this meeting is yet to be determined.

Development application for the former Myer building and Queensgate sites

A development application for the redevelopment of the former Myer building (2 Newman Court), Queensgate (10 - 14 William Street) and Queensgate carpark (20 Henderson Street) is available for public comment until 4 January 2017.

The application forms part of the Kings Square cultural precinct redevelopment and seeks approval for:

  • a number of ground floor retail tenancies fronting William Street, Newman Court and the new internal laneways
  • a basement and ground floor cinema at 2 Newman Court
  • offices on the upper floors of 10 William Street and 2 Newman Court.

To allow for this development complete demolition of the building at 10 William Street and the partial demolition of the building at 2 Newman Court has been proposed. The car park development at 20 Henderson Street proposes alterations to the existing building.

The applicant has requested discretionary building height and on-site car parking approvals.
